Our Story
It started with a simple frustration.
I was searching for Black-owned businesses in my neighborhood—places where I could spend my money with intention, support my community, and discover hidden gems that don't always show up on the first page of Google.
But finding them? That was the hard part.
I'd scroll through social media threads, ask friends for recommendations, dig through outdated lists, and still come up empty-handed. It felt like these incredible businesses were right in front of me, but invisible at the same time.
That's when I remembered The Green Book.
The Legacy of The Green Book
From 1936 to 1966, The Negro Motorist Green Book was a lifeline for Black travelers navigating a segregated America. It listed safe hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and businesses where Black people could stop without fear of discrimination or violence.
Victor Hugo Green, a Harlem postal worker, created the guide to help his community travel with dignity and safety. At its peak, the Green Book had over 15,000 listings across the country—proof that even in the face of systemic oppression, Black entrepreneurship thrived.
The Green Book wasn't just a directory. It was a declaration: We exist. We build. We deserve to be found.
While we're no longer navigating Jim Crow laws, the spirit of The Green Book remains urgent. Black-owned businesses still face barriers—less visibility, less access to capital, less foot traffic. And people who want to support them still struggle to find them.
From Idea to Reality
One night, the thought hit me: What if we built a Green Book for the digital age?
Not a PDF you pass around. Not another Instagram thread that disappears in 24 hours. A real, searchable, nationwide directory where anyone—anywhere—could discover Black-owned businesses in seconds.
I called my brother. We sketched it out on a napkin (literally). Within weeks, we had a prototype. By early 2025, The GreenWeb was born.
We started reaching out to business owners, talking about it on local radio shows, and building our community. Before we knew it, we had over 100 users browsing the directory, referring businesses, and spreading the word.
Our Mission
The GreenWeb exists to make Black-owned businesses impossible to miss.
We're building the largest, most comprehensive directory of Black-owned businesses in the country—a place where:

We're not just listing businesses. We're amplifying voices, driving traffic, and creating opportunities for Black entrepreneurs to grow and scale.
